Julfest

Each year, the Spiran Lodge comes alive with the sights, sounds, and flavors of Julfest, a joyful celebration of Scandinavian heritage. As guests step inside, they are greeted by the haunting aroma of freshly baked Nissua, a Finnish cardamom bread lovingly prepared by volunteers. Over two full days, they bake more than 100 loaves using a recipe passed down through generations, and the bread, along with other baked goods, sells out within the first few hours. Alongside the baked treats, imported Scandinavian meats and cheeses are available, perfect for adding a special touch to holiday dinners.

The festivities continue with live Scandinavian music, traditional dance, and Christmas carols, filling the air with merriment. Visitors can browse the gift table featuring imported Scandinavian gifts, from hand-crafted ornaments to festive decorations, offering a unique opportunity to find special treasures for the holiday season. The lodge is filled with people eager to celebrate their heritage, and the free entrance makes it accessible to all who wish to join in the fun.

A highlight of the event is the Saint Lucia procession on the second floor, where a performance commemorates the young martyr who brought light and sustenance to persecuted Christians. With candles adorning her head, Saint Lucia symbolizes the spirit of giving that shines brightly throughout Julfest. Whether you’re there for the food, the traditions, or the camaraderie, this annual celebration at Spiran Lodge is a heartwarming way to embrace the season.
